Promotional Games Have Been Around A Long Time
Our “casual historian” shares a few of the games and toys that have promoted businesses, organizations, and the city. Some have been used as fundraisers.
The first item is a “Puzzle Cube”
from the Pabst Distributor,
owned by Kathryn Asher of Havre de Grace, MD.
George, the “casual historian,” claims he’d have to cheat and take it apart to complete the game.
This 500-piece puzzle, picture of the Havre de Grace Concord Point Lighthouse at Christmas time is a recently acquired game from a yard sale!

Havre de “what” ???
Okay, how many ways can he say it: Havre de ‘monopoly’ … Havre de ‘opoly’ … Havre de Grace-opoly … there we go! This game was a fundraiser for the St. John’s Episcopal Church here in Havre de Grace. This particular game has NOT been opened. Our “casual historian” is supposed to be getting one that has been opened so that he can display both!

Some of the older games include a set of dominoes from the Coca-Cola Company here in town.
One of our prized promotional games is this domino set from the Bauer Harness Company, that was located on St. John Street.
Will Bauer is known for having built The Willou Theatre in 1909 at 323 St. John Street in the basement of which he also operated a harness-making shop. But after a devastating fire in the theatre Will Bauer sold the theatre property in 1927.
