You never know what you’ll find when searching for Havre de Grace history. Our casual historian of HdG is extremely appreciative of the folks who bring in items that give us answers to our questions. Well, sometimes they bring us something that starts a question. But in all cases, it’s so much fun to have our residents share bits and pieces of their knowledge of local history. And, of course, it’s truly wonderful, when we receive items that go with their stories.
Our casual historian of HdG shares a few items from the Derby Cafe that was located on the corner of Otsego and Water Streets.
He shared a lighter that was an advertising piece for the Derby Cafe.

The image below is an advertisement for The Derby Cafe in a 1944 Directory. Most likely it was a hopping place during the days of our racetrack!
Our casual historian notes that back in the 1800s, the U.S. Hotel was in this same location.
